Before I announce the winner, I want to thank each and everyone of you who entered the first #designhappylivinggiveaway for the chance to win a $4000.00 gift certificate to Thibaut. It was a lot of fun for me to read your comments and feel your happiness in having this opportunity.
Secondly, I want to thank my giveaway partner, Thibaut, for making this giveaway possible for you, my readers, blog subscribers and friends of my Instagram feed, Design Happy Living. Thank you, #TeamThibaut!
This was the first giveaway Thibaut has ever done in partnership with a lifestyle blog and your enthusiasm for their fresh, colorful wallpapers, fabrics and furniture made them happy to witness, too.
So without further ado…the winner of the $4000.00 msrp gift certificate to Thibaut is…. Susan Zager!
CONGRATULATIONS ON BEING THE WINNER, SUSAN!
Susan sent me a lovely picture of herself. See it below. She was so thrilled to win! She and her husband are in the construction business in Apopka, FL, a suburb of Orlando.
Susan and I had a fun conversation on the phone. It turns out that before she and her husband moved to Apopka, FL, they lived in an area that was around the corner from where I lived in Longwood, FL as a teen. And she was born in Texas, where I now live. What a small world, right?
Susan doesn’t post too much to her Instagram feed herself, but she is an avid follower of many designers and lifestyle bloggers.
She found out about the #designhappylivinggiveaway through this Instagram STORY that my good real life friend, Carla Aston, posted on the first day of the giveaway!!
It was a *it’s such a connected world* moment for me to find this out from Susan!
Carla: Susan thanks you…and so do I!
The winner, Susan Zager!
I found out that Susan has been a long time fan of Thibaut and has their wallpaper books!
She told me she has had her eye on Thibaut’s HONSHU wallpaper for her powder bathroom. But she also loves their new CENTRAL PARK wallpaper. See both of them below.
As the winner, which one will she choose? Both wallpapers are available in multiple colorways, too, so it will be fun to see which pattern and color she selects.
Thibaut’s team will now work with her directly to make sure she gets exactly what she wants.
As you can see, Susan will have 7 different colorways of HONSHU to choose from – if she decides on this paper vs. their new CENTRAL PARK pattern.
This is how one colorway of HONSHU looks on a powder bathroom wall, Susan. I love that Thibaut has these beautiful images available to download from their website so you can see how a particular pattern repeats.
DESIGN TIP: Always ask to see the largest possible sample of any wallpaper or fabric you are considering. All fabrics and wallpapers will have their pattern repeat information available, but without seeing that repeat in person, it can be hard to tell what it looks like up on your wall or on a piece of furniture.
It’s worth it to invest in a yard or two of a fabric or wallpaper before going * all in.* Please be aware, though: Thibaut only sells through designers, retailers and *to the trade* showrooms. They do not sell or sample out to the general public.
This is why hiring an interior designer to help you visualize can be so useful. Interior designers can visualize in ways that the normal person cannot and they can put together patterns with repeats of varying sizes in harmonious ways that is almost impossible to do for those not trained to *see* this way.
Here’s a close up. I love how the orchids blend into the background here.
This wallpaper [available also as a fabric ] is a new offering from Thibaut and is one I instantly fell in love with, personally. I can’t wait to see if you, Susan, as my winner, will choose your long time favorite, HONSHU, or this newer pattern, CENTRAL PARK, for your powder bathroom.
This is how the SKY BLUE colorway of Thibaut’s CENTRAL PARK wallpaper looks on a powder bathroom wall. I love the reflection of these colors in the surface of the sink.
DESIGN TIP: Whenever you’re designing your own homes, you’ll always want to take into account reflections.
Whether that’s what a mirror reflects, or the front of a TV screen reflects, what a glass door reflects or what the surface of a glossy countertop reflects, make sure the reflection is something that pleases your eye.
Susan also told me she has her eye on a fabric from Thibaut, for another area of her home – their Javanese stripe in Wedgewood Blue from their Antilles collection.
How pretty is this colorway? Do you love this as much as I do? It reminds me of walking through fields of lavender in Provence.
Here is how this pattern, in green, repeats on a chair.
BUYING TIP: Often you will find that if furniture – bought from any of the big lifestyle furniture stores – is covered in a fabric with a repeat like this, the repeat will not match from back to seat cushion and down the front like this does. And it will definitely not have a skirt with a perfect match from side to side, as this does.
This level of perfect pattern matching is what sets Thibaut upholstery apart and why designers love working with this line so much. Thibaut’s furniture frames also carry a lifetime warranty.
Why don’t the big lifestyle retailers offer this level of pattern matching? Because it takes extra fabric to get a perfect repeat match like this and the big lifestyle retailers have to keep their pricing as competitive as possible.
So, if you are someone who cares about pattern matching, please consider hiring an interior designer for this all important and more expensive purchase.
They know what shapes of furniture will work with what fabrics. Some shapes aren’t meant to go with certain fabrics with certain types of repeats.
They will also make sure you purchase enough fabric to get a perfect repeat match. They will give specific instructions to the upholsterer as to how the fabric should be applied, so you don’t make a costly mistake if you try it yourself.
In addition, they will go over these details with you and have you sign off on drawings, so you will know what to expect when your custom upholstery arrives, as custom upholstery is non-refundable/non-returnable.
I invite you to read much more about Thibaut’s wallpapers, fabrics and furniture on the original giveaway post I wrote here:
